Duration
Three Days (18 hours at 6 hours contact teaching per day)
Course content
The course will give you the knowledge and confidence to deal with a first aid emergency in the workplace. Using a variety of learning methods we will cover the following aspects of the syllabus:
ü Accidents and illness
ü Using a first aid kit
ü Simple record keeping
ü Treatment of an unconscious casualty
ü Heart attacks
ü Resuscitation
ü Shock
ü Choking
ü Bleeding
ü Burns and scalds
ü Poisoning
ü Fractures
ü Seizures
ü Asthma
ü Severe allergic reaction
ü Eye injuries
ü Low blood sugar
ü Fainting.
Assessment and certification
There two aspects to the final assessment - practical and theory. Successful candidates will complete a short written test paper to cover the theory aspects. The practical is based on three sections based on the above syllabus overseen by a qualified assessor. After completing the final assessment successful candidates receives an HSE approved certificate valid for three years. This course is legally compliant with the current Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981. Upon successful completion of this three day course, first aiders receive certification to allow them to practise for three years after which a re-qualification course becomes necessary. It is strongly recommended that you update your skills by taking an annual refresher and ongoing training.
